slowly combing his hair with a natural bristle brush she had carried in with her. "Hey you were right! The tangles just come right out!" he exclaimed. "We girls have had long hair many more years than you boys! Certainly we must know someting about how to care for it," she replied a little smuggly. With the conditioner it didn't take long before his hair was all smooth. "Supper's on,' " she called as she left the room.

He followed her to the table which she had set while he was in the shower. He was so hungry he ate in silence. "My you were starved weren't you!" she said grinning. "I sure was. You're α good cook," he complimented. They sat in the liTerry ving room and sipped hot tea after dinner. was tired after his day of walking and wanted to go to bed early. CHAPTER THREE

Work and Embarrassment

He fell asleep as soon as his head hit the pillow. It felt so nice to be sleeping on a mattress instead of the ground for a change. His restful sleep was halted by the sound of a rooster crowing. He rolled over and peeked out of the window. The sun gleamed brightly over the green landscape and he smiled at the sight of the fluffy white clouds that had replaced the stormy gray ones as he slept. He sprang out of bed, removed his pajamas and donned his clothes. Opening the bedroom door his nostrils were assaulted by the smell of eggs, bacon and coffee that wafted from the kitchen. His stomach grumbled a reply to the sound of the sizzling frying pan as he entered the bathroom. He washed his face and hands and splashed cold water on himself to help wake up. Then he started to comb his hair. He couldn't believe it was the same head! It had never been like this before. Instead of being tangled and matted after a night's sleep it was smooth and fluffy. The comb glided through the strands and the usual problem of static electricity was gone. "That conditioner stuff is something else," he mumbled to himself.

He walked into the kitchen and said good morning as he pulled up a chair. "Did you sleep well," Susan inquired. "Sure did. That bed is really comfortable. I looked outside and the weather is beautiful. I guess I can get to work today. "You'd better eat plenty of food I've got a busy day planned for you. They both sat down and filled themselves with a hearty breakfast. "Before I start the dishes, I'll show you what to do," she said. They walked outside and she pointed to a break in the fence across a
